Hit and Run
(John Raymond Pollard)
2005-07-16

    We're on the run each day,
    Rising early gulping food.
    We work; we play;
    We pray for someone special in our lives.
    You bumped into me.
    I wondered could you be the one,
    Or was it just a case of hit and run?

    You walked away that day,
    My body fine but in my mind
    A mark you made;
    It's true: your image like a blue tattoo.
    Did anyone witness the deed as it was done:
    this crime of passion action, hit and run?

    Who and where were you?
    My fascination grew.

    And then last Saturday
    As I entered the café
    I saw your face, your lips.
    As if to launch a thousand ships
    You smiled at me, and I could see
    The day was won.
    It would not be a case of hit and run.

    Under skies of blue
    I'm on the run with you.

    We're on the run each day,
    Rising early gulping food.
    We work; we play;
    We pray for someone special in our lives.
    You bumped into me.
    Fortunately, you were the one:
    A happy outcome from this hit and run.
