Palm mute heavily for F5, and gradually ease it off through the riff.

F5 E5 Am B
I'm watching you walk as you walk that distant way
F5 E5 C B
Take that thing away from me take away most everything
F5 E5 Am B
I couldn't say I'd blame you or you should never look in back
F5 E5 C B
You wouldn't be to blame if you couldn't take it back

[Chorus]
G Am B C
Hours slipping by as you watch the worlds collide
G F Em C
Now you're nothing more than another passerby
G F Em C
The dark it turns to light in a distant flash of night
        G F Am Am
Rolling with the tide I confide the act we wear it thin again

I think that on the album, these are played as E-shape barre chords
(similar to the verse riff, but less restrained), but I play them as open
position chords to go easy on my left hand.

INTRO RIFF 4 TIMES

The other verses and choruses are played with the same riffs:

If affection holds you back then what is left to hold
If I could find the answer to that question then I'd know
The thoughts that clutter up your mind and leave me feeling drained
And walking pacing up the walls across the floor again
