Can't Keep A Good Cop Down

Hoping to get some peace
Some sleep
Some distance from thinking I've dropped it again
He's pulling at the thread
He looks like me
He feels like me
He smells like me
Need to stop the panic, this hesitancy

He keeps me awake
Calling like thunder
I'm trying to block him out:
"Don't let slip a single second of the life you wanted"

"Man, don't pin this on me now!"

Cut a hefty chunk of my world away like fat stripped off the bone
A little too close to the action
Perhaps the marrow splinters into view
Nagging and pushing and proving that it's not so far off after all

It's never good enough
It's never fast enough unless I'm speeding and time is standing still
I break my own legs every day
I set the traps the SURPRISE!
I caught myself well!
Much like the one before
And the one before that
And I thought the world was the setter of traps
I'm stranded here
Breathing to stroke the inside of a lung
Scratching to make the skin feel warm
