The Edge of the Map

When I was a child,
I got lost in the woods
With my father.
Our best guesses failed;
We wound up on a trail
With no markers.

My little lamb,
The best-laid plans
Sometimes go astray.
Sometimes the land
Don't come with maps
To guide our way.

Your path is my path;
It leads me to where I am.
Follow the road
Wherever it goes
Until at last we're past
The edge of the map.

There's something out there.
