Gave up your pride, your dignity
For a pair of taxidermic wings
How convenient
When the room went crooked, you blinked

Your palms, blistered from
Clapping for a king that erased your face
Paper halo
Hollow spine, borrowed time

Suddenly flies come to blacken the skies
As they drink up lies and they feed on decay
The puppeteer's strings tangle in their wings
And they tumble to Earth under gluttonous weight
