INTRO: C, Em, Am, F (x2) VERSE 1:
C Me and My best friend Jim started
Em our own band
Am When I was fifteen living in
F Deutschland.
C Em Didn't matter that we could hardly play
Am Came up with a crazy name, called
F the band "Queen UK"
C Em I played the guitar, he played drums
Am Our parents told us one day we'd be
F bums
C And everyday we'd go over to his
Em parents house
Am And in the basement we'd play as
F hard and loud
C As we could get it. It drove his mom
Em mad
Am But it never seemed to bother his
F drunk dad.
C Em We wrote five or six, songs or so
Am We played them at the high school
F talent show
C We blew the shit up. The girls went
Em crazy.
Am We looked so cool. They called us
F 'baby.'
C Em And after that man, we had it made.
Am F The normal life was later-ade. INTERLUDE:
C, Em, Am, F...

VERSE 2:
C Well I moved to Austin, he moved to
Em A after living in Seattle.
Am I joined a funk band, he got all
F into heavy metal.
C It was a wild time. I did a lot of
Em blotter.
Am It was like some bad episode of
F "Welcome Back Kotter".
C Em I went out to A to visit him.
Am But he was all messed up playing in
F some shitty band.
C Em Snorting heroin. He had like ten tatoos.
Am We smoked some serious kind, drank
F a ton of booze.
C Em We joked around alot. We'd always say
Am F We've come so far since the good ol' days. INTERLUDE:
C, Em, Am, F... VERSE 3:
C It was a blur but, I don't really
Em remember much.
Am Just glad to get the hell out, I
F never liked A too much.
C Austin was more laid back, more
Em like my kind of town.
Am F People kickin it, not so tightly wound.
C My bands kept breaking up, like
Em they always do.
Am F I kept getting by, and pulling through.
C I got a phone call from Jim one
Em night in ninety-eight
Am He didn't sound so good he said 'I
F need a break'.
C He said can I come to stay for a
Em week or so.
Am F I said 'That'd be cool. No problem bro.'
C Em But I never spoke to him again after that.
Am I got a call from this guy in Jim's
F band Aftermath.
C He said that Jim had died sometime
Em last week or so.
Am In his apartment, some kind of
F overdose.
C The police couldn't find his folks,
Em and maybe did I know
Am How to get a hold of them and I
F said I did and so
C They called his parents up and it
Em was shitty but,
Am F I went to the funeral and I was all fucked up.
C Em And I felt responsible in some weird ol' way.
Am But there was nothing I could do,
F there was nothing I could say. INTERLUDE: C, Em, Am, F (x2)... VERSE 4:
C Em That's the way it goes when fate is king.
Am F You can't tell the world how to do its thing.
C You can just hold on tight, let it
Em take you for a ride.
Am And maybe you might make it to the
F other side.
C Well in the end I guess, it doesn't
Em matter so.
Am F I guess I'll tell you everything I know now.
