Tono:
Em D The rock is gonna fall on us, he woke with a start
B C And he ran to his mother, the fear dark in his heart
Em D He told her of the vision that he was sure he'd seen
B She said: "Go back to sleep son,
C B Em you're having a bad dream!" [Silly child...]
G Everybody knows the rock leans over the town
D Everybody knows that it won't tumble to the ground
C Remember Chicken Little said the sky was falling down
B Well nothing ever came of that, the
C B Em - C - Em world still whirls around
Em "The rock is gonna fall on us," he
D stood and told the class
B The professor put his chalk down
C and peered out through his glasses
Em But he went on and said; "I've seen
D it, high up on the hill
B If it doesn't fall this year then
C B Em very soon it will!" [Crazy boy...]
G Everybody knows the rock leans over the town

D Everybody knows that it won't tumble to the ground
C We've more important studies than your fantasies and fears
B You know that rock's been perched
C B up there for a hundred thousand
Em - C - Em years
Em "The rock is gonna fall on us." He
D told the magistrates
B "I believe that we can stop it but
C the time is getting late
Em You see I've done all the research
D my plans are all complete."
B He was showing them contingencies
C B Em when they showed him to the street [Just a madman...]
G Everybody knows the rock leans over the town
D Everybody knows that it won't tumble to the ground
C Everybody knows of those who say the end is near
B Everybody knows that life goes on
C B Em as usual round here (Am 8x's)
Am G He went up on the mountain beside the giant stone
D They knew he was insane so they left
Em him all alone
Am He'd given up enlisting help for
G there was no one else
D He spent his days devising ways to
Em stop the rock himself
Am One night while he was working
G building braces on the ledge
D The ground began to rumble the rock
B Em trembled on the edge
Em "The rock is going to fall on us!
D Run or you'll be crushed!"
B And indeed the rock was moving,
C crumbling all to dust.
Em He ran under it with one last hope
D that he could add a prop
B C B And as he disappeared the rock
Em came to a stop
Em The people ran into the street but
D by then all was still
B The rock seemed where it always was
C or where it always will be
Em When someone asked where he had
D gone they said: "Oh he was daft.
B Who cares about that crazy fool."
C B Em And then they'd start to laugh
Am But high up on the mountain when
G the wind is hitting it
D If you're watching very closely the
B Em rock slips a little bit
