Simply Vanity

I grip so tightly on to things that might be
Quite unlikely to satisfy me
My hands are holding on to things so broken
I think I put my hope in a misdirected notion

My eyes have drifted from You
Lately I’ve come to see
That everything I run to
Is all just vanity

I need You
I need You more than anything
But I cling to
A million other lesser things
Time is fading
Won’t You give me eyes to see?
So much of what I’m chasing
Is simply vanity

My heart’s divided would You please unite it
I need Your guidance, Spirit please provide it
I want to know You, I want to please You
I want to go to the place You lead to

My eyes have drifted from You
Lately I’ve come to see

Convict me, I’m guilty
Forgive me, come heal me
Please teach me to seek You
Please reach me, I need You

I need You
I need You more than anything
But I cling to
