G D Dear Sir I write this note to you
G to tell you of my plight
C For at the time of writing it I'm
G D not a pretty sight
C G My body is all black and blue, my
D Em face a deathly grey
G C And I write this note to say why I
D G am not at work today
G While working on the fourteenth
D G floor some bricks I had to clear
C G But tossing them down from such a
D height was not a good idea
C G The foreman wasn't very pleased he
D Em is an arkward sod
G C And he said I had to cart them
D G down the ladders in me hod
G Well clearing all these bricks by
D G hand it was so very slow
C G So I hoisted up a barrel and
D secured a rope below
C G But in me haste to do the job, I
D Em was to blind to see
G C That a barrel full of building
D G bricks was heavier than me

G And so when I untied the rope the
D G barrel fell like lead
C G And clinging tightly to the rope I
D started up instead
C G I shot up like a rocket, and to my
D Em dismay I found
G C That halfway up I met the bloody
D G barrel coming down
G Well the barrel broke me shoulder
D G as to the ground it sped
C G And when I reached the top I
D banged the pulley with me head
C G But I clung on tightly numb with
D Em shock from this almighty blow
G C While the barrel spilled out half
D it's bricks some fourteen floors
G below
G When these bricks had fallen from
D G the barrel to the floor
C G I then outweighed the barrel and
D so started down once more
C G But I clung on tightly to the rope
D Em me body racked with pain
G C And halfway down I met the bloody
D G barrel once again
G Now the force of this collision
D G halfway down the office block
C G Caused multiple abrasions and a
D nasty case of shock
C G But I clung on tightly to the rope
D Em as I fell towards the ground
G C And I landed on the broken bricks
D G the barrel had scattered round.
G Now as I lay there on the ground I
D G thought I'd passed the worst
C G But the barrel hit the pulley
D wheel and then the bottom burst
C G A shower of bricks rained down on
D Em me I didn't have a hope
G C As I lay there bleeding on the
D G ground I let go of the bloody rope
G The barrel now being heavier so
D G started down once more
C G It landed right across me as I lay
D there on the floor
C G It broke three ribs and my left
D Em arm and I can only say
G C I hope you`ll understand why I am
D G not at work today
