Little Pieces

The less you expect from life the less disappointment you face. We all face the same unbeatable nemesis though it manifests itself in different forms. So why bother fighting?"

As you open up before me, like a book from which I read
The secrets you would hide from all the prying eyes
You never understood why gods would have you fooled like this
First have you pray for help; then throw you at the wolves

The scenes you hide in your mind show a life of little chastity
But things you've done in your past are of little importance to me

We are but little pieces of this world around us
After a thousand years have passed, no one will care for the trivial lives we've had

As you try to conceal your thoughts, you make them more obvious to me
You are so vulnerable this a miracle you live

Forever you've been broken - agony as your only friend
Seeing happiness from a distance never reaching it

You and I, we have always been astray
Never finding the things we have always been yearning for
Maybe now we can share some of our pain and find a way to survive the coming days
