Karaoke Downtown
Dom Fera
I was singing karaoke downtown
It was kind of in a low key I found
I was drinking like my license allowed me to
I was mixing up the streets and the avenues
It was sometime in the morning when I learned
I'd been wasting my attention on her
And I finally heard a thought in between the sound
Of the buildings getting older downtown
I was judging every cover of every book
I was buttoning my shirts cause she liked the look
I was fighting for the vote in 2012
I was fighting then I couldn't vote myself
And I bought a ukulele just to be
Like the students at the music academy
I was shoving every word in between the sound
Of the buildings getting older downtown
But please, I'm trying harder now
And the linings on the clouds
Put colors in my eyes I'd never seen
And it's hard
When you write a calling card
In the kind of college bar
That's built to break you down
Not built to keep your record clean
I've been singing karaoke downtown
And it's always in a low key I found
I've been drinking in the place of a pill or two
I've been mixing what I want and I have to do
And it's always in the morning when I learn
Cause if she's the kind of person I deserve
Then I owe a little more to the things I found
When I wasn't getting older downtown
I'm never getting older downtown
I'm never getting older downtown
