Fire In The Sky

in childhood dreams
we could learn to fly
we could spread our wings
and reach towards the sky
there were no boundaries
nothing to far
nothing out of reach
not the furthest star

i have come to fear the bright blue skies
they have burned so many holes in my mind
with their trails of white and plumes of gray
these are the colors of dreadful days
like fire in the sky over texas

before we bore the burdens
of practicality
before our hands were tied with
stands of bureaucracy
there were no limits
to what we could create
we could all be captains
masters of our fates
don't let the dream die
one day we will rise again
don't ever let it die
one day we will fly again
