now, more than ever
freedom is under attack
to take the words out of your mouth
and never give them back
recording everything you say
every book you've ever read
to pre-empt any treason
any thoughts you might have said
now, more than ever
we're welcoming distraction
from unhidden agendas
and executive inaction
ask and you shall not receive
answers from this administration
while it leaves its people vulnerable
to take another vacation

as terrorists replace the communists
enemy combatants fill the libraries
evil doers occupy the no-fly lists
and traitors film documentaries
there's a brave new world waiting outside
mccarthy's risen from the dead
1984 is at your door
the new red scare has raised it's head

illegitimate authorities
taking civil liberties
shrouded in their secrecy
behind closed doors so no one sees
government of and for the people
slips away into sides unequal
separates like good and evil
until the next great upheaval
