we cannot learn from books that burn
we cannot see past our bloody hands
we cannot justify and eye for an eye for an eye
we cannot rule another sovereign land

our presidents dismiss, precedents
the world's respect turns, to resentment
our homeland, can only be secured
when history is locked away, and censored
nothing sells complacency, quite like fear
a self-interested sales pitch, so blatant and so clear
authority corrupted, bought and never earned
can't be held accountable, and with freedom to burn

we cannot stand united behind those who will divide us
we cannot have democracy yielding all our power
we cannot have a choice by silencing our voice
we cannot kill the weed just cutting off the flower

code green, but just wait,
don't feel safe, there's no escaping
code blue, lock the doors,
hit the floors, turn on the tv
code yellow, grab a mask,
stay on task, you must believe me
code orange, be forewarned,
sound the horns, it's another
code red, gasp and gag,
clutch your flags, duck and cover
