I have learned a special kind of dark
In life’s monotony and hardening of heart
I could write a novel now with nothing profound
Surrounded by the bottles I alone have emptied out

I have searched the corners, turned the cupboards upside down
Only to find my Maker’s now the One who marked me out

For all that I had thought a myth, Your grace and mercies crown
For all of my anxieties, Your comforts hound me down
I could never hide my shame from the One who made my skin
You know every hair on my head; every shower I have collapsed in

But You are better than bourbon
Better than whiskey, better than wine

You are the Father of lights, Father of glory
You can brighten up the thousand shadows in me
