GDAEBm GHOST ECE : EUROPE "Holland"G - G - G - G - A - A - AD We were the cliché AmericanE backpackersG Standing on the side of the roadD in the rainE G With our cardboard sign written in black sharpieD A G That read Am-ster-damD A G We were going to Am-ster-damD E So we weren't surprised by the looks in the eyesG Of the people in their cars when they passed us byD E And they gave us the middle fingerG Or the thumbs up or thumbs downD E But we stayed tough, we stood our ground g And by the end of the afternoonD E We got dropped off in the middleG of this townA Now everyone will tell you 'boutG the coffee shopsA And everyone will tell you 'boutG the red-light districtContinúa después del anuncioA But somehow up to now it seems theyG all forgot to mentionD The millions of bikes locked to theA millions of bridgesG That arch up like rainbows to crossD the city's millions of canalsA That run down every street with theG houseboats nice and neatG And the buildings lean so much youD think that they might fall downA Like the rain that day that drove us to a stoopG Ya gotta feel sorry for all the hippiesD That came here in the '60sA Now they don't know who they areG We watched one of them playin' flute He was tryin' to earn some changeBm We had spent all of our money forG that dayBm We grew hungry and the rain justG came and cameBm G And oh how I wished I had some of those friesBm That the people were eating whenG they passed us byA G And I closed my eyes for a minute or twoA G I opened them up when I got a nudge from youA G There was the hippie, the one with the flute,A G And holding in his hands was my wish come trueD G And he handed me the whole thingA And this whole interaction felt wasG more like a dreamD G He was readin' my mind it seemedA Like a genie granting wishes forG people on the streetD And we never could have thanked himG enoughA I don't know if he knew how much itG meant to usD A And that night in a tent we counted all our moneyG And we figured out how long weD could stayD The way it looked to me we couldA live here foreverG D Sleep in the campground, eat falafel every dayBm But that's not what we came here toA doD G We had so much more left to seeD A And though this place felt so niceG D We made our plans to leave And we went to this park where they had free bikes at the gate Spent the day riding through the trees and it felt great We were offered a place to stay on the floor of someone's office But we chose to sleep beside the interstateD And the sounds of the cars passingG byD G Put us right to sleepD Nothin' beats layin' right underG the starsD And I always feel safe when you'reA D sleepin' beside me
