E|E|-------------------------------------------------------------------------------|| Long Ride Home - Patti Griffin E|E|-------------------------------------------------------------------------------||Tabbed by: rarmes (Robert Armes) Tuning: DADGBD - Double Drop D Capo: 4 Notes: Standing on the shoulders of Kate Peterson's version, I have put together this version. A couple notable changes: 1) The A chord is not played on the 7th fret, as Kate has it. I watched some youtube performances of Patti to confirm this. Basically you can just play the A as if it were a normal tuning, but without the high e (d in our case). 2) The G chord IS played on the 5th fret, as Kate has it, and this IS indeed also how Patti plays it. However - I don't like it. Playing those low notes on the 5th fret and with the capo, they tend to be less accurate in pitch. So I prefer to play the G chord as in the first version below - sounds nice and more pitch correct. But that's just me - make your own choice here. I've included both versions for completeness. 3) There are also some points in the song where Patti alternates between the A and Asus9. In these cases, Patti doesn't bar the chord, but rather, fingers the strings individually, making the change between these chords smoother. 4) The Bm minor should include the minor third note (missing in Kate's) - added in here. 5) Season to taste Intro/slide:E|-------------| R-------------------------| B|----3-----3--| E---3s5-5-5-5----3--------| G|----2-----2--P---2---0-0-0----2--------| D|----0-----0--| E-------0-0-0-------------| A|--0----------| A-------------------------| E|-------0-----T--------------0----------|D: 0 0 0 2 3 0 G: x 2 0 0 0 0G: 5 5 0 0 0 0 A: x 0 2 2 2 x Asus9: x 0 2 2 0 x Bm: x 2 4 4 3 x Intro: D/slide [verse 1] D D/slide Long black limousine D D/slide Shiniest car I've ever seenG The back seat is nice and cleanD D/slide She rides as quiet as a dream [pre-chorus1]A G D Someone dug a hole six long feet in the groundA G D I said goodbye to you and I threw my roses downA G D Ain't nothing left at all in the end of being proudG A Asus9 A With me riding in this car, and you flying through them clouds [chorus 1] G D/slide I've had some time to think about it G D/slide And watch the sun set like a stoneG Bm I've had some time to think about youA Asus9 D On the long ride home D/slide [verse 2] D D/slide One day I took your tiny hand D D/slide Put your finger in the wedding bandG Your daddy gave a piece of land D D/slide We laid ourselves the best of plans [pre-chorus2]A G D Forty years go by with someone laying in your bedA G D Forty years of things you say wish you'd never saidA G D How hard would it have been to say some kinder words insteadG A Asus9 A I wonder as I stare up at the sky turning red [chorus 2] G D/slide I've had some time to think about it G D/slide And watch the sun sink like a stoneG Bm I've had some time to think about youA Asus9 D On the long ride home D/slide [bridge]G D Headlights searchin down the drivewayG A The house is dark as it can beG Bm I go inside and all is silentA Asus9 A It seems as empty as the inside of me [chorus - last] G D/slide I've had some time to think about it G D/slide And watch the sun set like a stoneG Bm I've had some time to think about youA G On that long On the longA G D On the long On the long ride home
