All For You

Helen Trevillion

I waited in the pouring rain
    And saw you standing there
Confused just to see your face again
Those doubts I could not bear

You took my hand and I closed my eyes
And my whole world shook with a thousand 'why?'s
You kissed me then and my mouth turned dry
And burned with tears I could not cry.

I told you all I wanted was
some time to find my ground
I asked "please, won't you wait for me?"
Though all my hopes were drowned.

And your eyes they gave it all away
I couldn't find the words to say
For I had stolen your light of day
You held me then and I looked away.

Last night I dreamed a dream of you
Oh never a dream so true!
    And one simple meaning understood:
This heart is all for you

I raced through all the busy streets
And my world was churning at my feet
My head was light and my soul was sweet
And my heart rejoiced with every beat

But you turned away and closed your eyes
The rain fell pouring from the skies
Burned by tears I could not cry,
I bowed my head; a silent goodbye.
