For The Women In My Life

I remember I was barely four
When mama told me "Daddy's gone:.died in the war
He won't be home again"
I never knew him, a picture's all I had
Mama raised me all by herself through good and bad
Somehow she bore the pain
She's the one who believed in me
Always knew when to let me be
Showed me how to keep wrong from right
She was there for me day and night.

I know just what I am and I'm no shining knight
But I believe I'm a better man for the women in my life

I have a daughter, she's an only child
Like her father, she can get a little wild
Nobody holds her chained
Her mother raised her and bore the load,
And often told her "Daddy's gone out on the road
But he'll be home again"
But for the time that I wasn't there
When she needed a father's care
I can't turn back the hands of time
But let her know that I'm proud she's mine.
