Valhalla

A king not a God, in peace I have come across the wasteland of death
To the edge of the earth, a palace of ice towering up through the sky
We gaze in awe, impenetrable walls reflect the Sun in our eyes
All of my life I've dreamed of this day, my forefathers all came this way

Valor so great brings tears in my eyes
Choking me up, hard to swallow
There before me stand the mighty walls
The gates of heaven, valhalla

We ride to the gates and there we wait, no one beckons us in
As I dismount, I breathe deep and shout, father, I have come home
Skeleton bones, armored in stone answer, entrance denied
For through your reign, too much blood, too much pain, by your sword too many have died

Decisions I've made, sent men to their graves
But that's not what I wanted
I did what was right, I've not come to fight
Before the gates of valhalla

I've prayed to you, fought for you
Now you turn me away
Can this be my just reward
My hand falls to my sword

I'll ask again for in my heart
I've earned the right of valhalla
Again denied, with a mighty blow
I storm the gates of valhalla

Then from the ground, a rumbling sound, the outcast skeletons rise
Ready to kill, with deadly skill, they catch us all by surprise
On holy ground, they circle around, their swords aiming to run me through
Another choice I must make, my eternal fate, this I never wanted to do

My captured men, dragged beneath the ground
Condemned souls of valhalla
They rise again, my trusted friends
Now try to pull me under

My courage strong, fears are gone
For today I'll stand by my father
I risk what's mine or for all time
My soul will helplessly wander

Beyond the land that I demand
My faith cannot be broken
Alone I'll fight with all my might
For the last words my father had spoken

My son now king, fight for what's right
