She Ran

I once knew a girl from the other side of town
Desdemona was her name
I wasn’t honest then, so I’ll be honest now
I’d like to see her face again
Her flippant charms caused me disaster

Her kiss set aside the pain
She’d sew my arms and I wouldn’t put it past her
To disarm me again
Her coat of furs made my tenors turn
And all concerns vanished at her word
That night I sang was where we began
But oh she ran

The way she looked at me from the corner of her eye
I suppose I should have known
But when she was gone it took me by surprise
It's where I'm scared to be alone
I didn't fall too far till after
I could finally touch her skin

Then my feelings were not mine to master
It was not a battle I could win
Once there I didn't dare to care
And I couldn't bear to put on any errors
My mind rang as she gave me her hand

I was blind drunk when I saw her last
And I could barely stitch a word
If I could speak then I’d tell her that I’d gladly
Take the chance of being burned but she’d say that
Foolish hearts, in her Irish laughter
Rarely goes to plan

And I didn't get the chance to ask her
