If I'm the tone where is my sound?
Where is the melody
That takes my notes into account?
Where are my verses to be found?
Remaining unsung -
Remaining unheard and aground

If I'm the light, where is my flash?
A fragile glimmer glew
Ablaze and burning to the ash
Where is the flame that I adore?
Remaining unlit
Within the gloom forevermore

Am I me - where is my willing?
Am I real - where is my dreaming?
Am I free - where is my dreaming?
Am I dead - where is my dying?
If I'm the word, where is my sense?
Where have the meanings gone
That frame confusion into tense
And save my phrases from pretense?
Remaining unread -
Remaining lacking in substance

Venomed by this narrow fear
Where are the voices
That channel every idea?
Whose promises are insincere
Who'll bury me inside
This worthless shell that I revere?

Absence - I thirst for life
Absence - all my longing
Absence - an acquired waste
I'm nothing more than yearning
