Tono:
G C Just a deaf man in the shteeble,
D C and to everyone's surprise,
G C he comes to shul each Shabbos, and
A D he prays with tear-filled eyes.
G C His son he is the Chazan, though
D Em his voice he's never heard.
C D But he sits there, enjoying every
G word.
G C He watches every motion, every
D C gesture that he makes.
G C And he stays till the very end,
A D how ever long it takes.
G C And when the davening is over,
D Em he's the first to reach his son.
C D And the deaf man in the shteeble
G says,"Well done".
G C Now it's right before Yom Kippor,
D G and in the shteeble there is fear.
G C They want to start Kol Nidre, but
A D the Chazan's still not there.
C D Oh, the shul was filled with
G D/F# Em people, as the night begins to fall.
C But the deaf man's chair stands
D G empty, by the wall.

D C rushing through the door.
G C He's wearing his white Chazan's
A D hat, he's never worn before.
G C He pauses for a moment, at his
D Em father's empty chair.
C D G And quietly, he wipes away a tear.
G C And he runs up to the bima, for
D G there's no time left to wait.
G C And half the shul can hear the

C D "Oh, just getting ready for Yom
G D/F# Em Kippur", is all he'd say.
C D But now, I'm going up to
B E F# pray--ay--ay .
B E And he takes his place surrounded
F# B by the holy torah ring.
B E And in a voice so beautiful, he
F# B begins to sing.
E F# Oh, every heart was broken, oh,
B C#m and every soul turned bright.
E F# From his Kol Nidre, that Yom

A D And when he finished davening, the
E D rabbi asked to tell,
A D What was it he was thinking of,
B E that made him sing so well.
A D "Well you knew my dad was deaf",
E A he said, "Last night he passed away.
D It's the first time that my

A D And he takes his place surrounded,
E A by the holy torah ring.
A D And in a voice so beautiful, he
E A begins to sing.
D E Oh, every heart was broken, oh,
A D and every soul turned bright.
D E From his Kol Nidre, that Yom
A Kippur night.
D E Oh, every heart was broken, oh,
A D and every soul turned bright.
D E From his Kol Nidre, that Yom
