The way the song was played live and
 in recordings goes as follows:

The tuning for the song is Open D or
 DADF#AD
Which is basically the shape of an 
"F" chord but all the notes will be 
on the same fret
So when you strum your guitar 
without holding any notes down, 
it'll make a perfect "D" chord
