In Memoriam

Old man you know the path to go
No one can flee his fate or destiny
Escape life's grim reality

He takes the stairs down to his hidden kingdom
Where puppets and clows bow to their lord of dreams
Who lived a lie or so it seems

A big collection carved from marble, stone or wood
His life's work, now soon to be forgotten
Just one piece to go, his claim to fame to keep
His name up high, it should, oh, how his
Fingers have bled, to fulfill his dream
That for a long time, already is dead

He flirts with his drink, burns out another fag
And he sighs with a smile, funny how the worries
Fade with each and every drag you take

Empty pockets, hollow scheme
Nothing left but a broken dream
Oh, human stain life's decay
At the end of the day

With shacky hands he holds the knife he knows he should
And he would leave another marking on the table
For one last masterpiece of marble, stone or wood
Oh, but he's cold and he's conscious somehow that if time
Will allow tonight he must take his last bow!

You live shy of life is it worth the strive
This obscure waste of time?

You've neglected love and to God above

What is life and what is death?
Are we just paws in someone's game of chess?
Is it all an illusion a far forbidden dream?
Is God the maker of this complex scheme?
Am I his decoy through my suffering joy?
