When Shadows Whisper Goodbye

Underneath the willow's weeping boughs we'd lay
Whispers in the wind, your silent screams convey
I reached for your shadow, tried to be your light
Ignorant to the endless battles you'd fight

I stood by your tempest, through the howling gale
Not seeing you were slipping, growing ever frail

When it rains in my heart, it pours out my eyes
For the friend who wore a mask of cheerful disguise
You danced with your demons in the pale Moon's glow
I was there for the waltz, but the finale I didn't know

We shared dreams like secrets, in the night's embrace
Hoping the dawn would your darkness erase
But the spectre of sorrow was a thief in the night
Stealing pieces of you, out of reach, out of sight

I was the watchman at the fortress of your despair
Yet the enemy was within, a ghost I couldn't snare
