They once believed there was a time for change
It came around when open minds were closed
Now as this chaos holds my feet to the ground
I can't see beyond these walls that we're tearing down
And I can deny you forever
But I won't find solace in never

Take with you my thoughts and the memories of all that I've lost
In my mind
There's no reason to be holding out forever
If this is what it's cost

They've written stories of the games of life
They sanctify forgetting all that's past
These pages written upon flesh with blood
Is this the glory that we're singing of?

We keep our faith in a tarnished reflection
Blindly guided by our misdirection
A need for purpose has lead us to wander
But will the dark pull us under?

And though lights are fading behind you
Your shadow is all that I cling to

There's no reason to be holding out forever
If this is what it's cost

We are not a mirror of our past
We can find light even whilst living in somebody else's shadow
We write our fate
We must forget our past to build our future

Do we believe now in the game of life?
Can we find a way to break the mould?
Tear out these pages and we'll write our own
Then we can leave the past alone
