Broken Door

Once upon a time there was a princess
Who lived behind a broken door
And in the mansion of her memory
She kept countless things in store.

Then one day I met this princess
As she fell down from Heaven to Earth
Dreamed of spending my life with her
I could dream of things far worse.

She could have been dressed from head to toe
In the finest cloth that gold can buy
Her eyes they outshone the light,
The reflection of the morning sky.

"What's lost," she said, "Is gone forever
Is broken, but, one day will be replaced."
So many things there are about her
I can remember the way she touched my face.

The things we did yesterday
Will be done again today
I didn't leave because I wanted to
And you know I'll be back again.

And you know that I miss you
And all the things we haven't yet said
I remember watching you
As you slept with me in my bed.

The things we did and didn't do
Are written in my dreams
And the echoes there of heaven
Are still waiting to be believed.
