The hero

When Hercules was saddened
the hero cried in pain
Apollo turned a madman
Achilles' fate: the same
the flower broke the iron
water wore away the stone
a hero who keeps on fighting
always stands alone.

High on the rock he stood
looking after all of us
wishing that he could
come down and just be one of us.

Even a hero with out love
cannot carry on
I am not a hero
but they expect me to carry on
Alone,
with no one to show me the way.
I am not a hero
but I will carry on.

He never lost a battle
He stood against the storm
But there's one thing that he just can't fight
His father calls him home
He'd done all he was bidden
He gave us all he knew
He had fulfilled his mission
With one more thing to do.

High above us he stood
Looking after all of us
Wishing that he could
Come down and just be one of us.

the hero knew it's over
but he had to stand and fight
and when it all was over
he knelt on the ground and cried
he wept for all he guarded
he wept for all his friends
he wept for all who knew him
he wept because this was the end

Down in the dust he lay
bleeding, crying, broken
before he was swept away

the memory of the brave
it's hard to be a hero
when they think that you're insane
mothers tell your children
that difficult is the road
but fame and recognition
only come after many woes
