Two French Sisters

At the counter I dropped off
a piece of paper on the tablecloth of red gingham
my name and address was neatly pressed on the header

I was looking for a job
and when I found a job
I took it out on everyone I knew

Buttons on a lapel
an occasion I know too well
perhaps today they'll let me go home early

When I was poor and alone
there was a peaceful tone...
to the watch you gave me last christmas

I wish someone would have prepared us for this when we were younger
I'm not ashamed to say that I would be happy to never complete an honest day's work
I would just float around town sipping cups of coffee and waiting for buses to take me to museums
my sister doesn't agree
she works too much and worries too much...
and laughs too much
just look where it's put her
the poor thing

in a room with no TV
an open window and company
and smiling faces to say that they missed me
