I've been sending these notes to you
I don't think they're getting through
Perhaps my affection's gotten misdirected
Or maybe you're reading them
And not really needing them
If that is the case, well, then I stand corrected

Come up with something that'll work this time
Write something funny, decide it's dumb
Throw out the page and start another one
Stop for a second to scratch my head
Have seven cigarettes and go to bed, yeah
Got a few more lines to go
So please tell me yes or no
