You could lightly palm-mute this 
part but to get the
same sound that Wes does i suddest 
turning setting your
treble, middle, and bass to the same
 value, (preferably
one above 5) and turning your 
presence all the way down
while still using distortion.

It's a really fun song to play and 
its great for beginners if they can
