Through the broken looking glass
Is it this reality I see

On my knees in this atomic autumn field

In a wasteland staring back at me
The cinder in the rain

A silent word to the wise
Written in the gravestone dust of our own demise
If we seek long enough to find
What we left buried

The key that unlocks the vessel
(A sequence in the maze)
The answer to the distress call
(A signal in the haze)
The seas we learn to navigate
(A compass spinning out of control)

The souls we have to save
From no one - no one but ourselves

Is it the ghost of you I see?
On the other side, looking back at me
Whispering in the ashen wind
All the warnings we never cared to believe
If I could slow this continuum
Long enough to linger in
The sentimental remembrance
Of the world we used to know

So why
Are we willingly dancing with death
On the edge of an imminent precipice
When there's no one left
To ask the question

Why?
Are we gazing into the abyss
On the verge of rescinding our genesis
When there's nowhere left to go
But into the great unknown
