Potterwatch was the only credible source of news available during the war, and their DJ's had to act so carefully to avoid persecution that most people didn't have access to their program and thereby the true news. Voldemort effectively monopolized the entire wizarding media in order to manipulate the fears of the people and to hide the awful truth of what he was doing. That's wrong. That's evil. But yeah, that's his style.
