In the shadow of the cross we stand alone
There's a hollow shape left in the corner where the light used to fall
A heavy silence echoes through the rooms and bounces off the wall
I reach out in the darkness but my fingers only meet the empty air

Haunted by the ghost of a presence that is no longer standing there
The weight of what is missing pulls the ground from underneath

A frontier step is robbed of design
And it's getting harder to breathe
The clock keeps ticking forward though I'm frozen in the gray of yesterday
I have to find the strength to wash the salt and bitter dust away
When the world won't stop its turning just because I've lost my steady ground
I'll take a step into the light until the peace I need is finally found

Memories are anchors pulling me deep into the cold and gray
But I must cut the line to find the strength to face another day
