G [Verse 1]
Am Attend you all good countrymen, my
D G name is Billy Green And I will tell of things I did when
Am D I was just nineteen
G I helped defeat the Yank invader,
Am D there can be no doubt
Am Yet lately men forget the name of
C D G Billy Green, the Scout. [Verse 2]
Am ‘Twas on a Sunday morn’ in June
D G when first we heard the sound Three thousand Yankees on the road
Am D to camp below Greentown
G Am Two Generals, Artillery and
D Company of horse
Am C With many rank and file afoot,
D G they were a mighty force. [Verse 3]
Am Says I to brother Levi, “Well, we
D G still can have some fun! We'll creep and whoop like Indians
Am D to try to make them run!”
G Which then we did both loud and
Am D long, much to the Yanks’ dismay
Am They fired their pop-gun muskets
C D G once and then they ran away! [Verse 4]
Am Well, first they plundered Stoney
D G Creek and then John Gage’s farm They cut his fences for their fires
Am D although the day was warm
G They bound my brother Isaac up and
Am D took him from his home;

Am They pillaged all the countryside,
C D G no mercy there was shown. [Verse 5]
Am Then says I to myself, “Now Billy,
D G this will never do Those scurvy Yanks are not the match
Am D for Loyalists like you”
G My brother's horse I quickly caught
Am D and put him to a run
Am And reached the British camp upon
C D G the heights of Burlington. [Verse 6]
Am Says I to Colonel Harvey, “Now, let
D G there be no delay If we're to reach the Yankee camp
Am D before the break of day
G I'll take you through the woods by
Am D night where I know every tree
Am And ere the dawn you surely can
C D G surprise the enemy” [Verse 7]
Am With men and guns we then set forth
D G the enemy to seek Across the beach at Burlington and
Am D then to Red Hill Creek;
G We came upon their sentries; we
Am D surprised them every one
Am C One died upon my sword, and all
D G the others off they run [Verse 8]
Am And so it was we were in place one
D G hour before dawn We fired three times upon the camp
Am D and then we marched along
G We fired again and charged as
Am D Colonel Harvey gave the word
Am And put the enemy to fight with
C D G bayonet and sword! [Verse 9]
Am With great confusion in the camp,
D G two Generals were caught The Colonel and his men made their
Am D artillery as naught
G We killed over two hundred and we
Am D captured all the rest;
Am Nor did we lose but eighty men; of
C D G them we had the best. [Verse 10]
Am And so it was I played the man
D G though I was but nineteen I led our forces through the night
Am D that this land would be free
G I foiled the Yank invaders and I
Am D helped put them to route
Am So, let no man forget the name of
C D G Billy Green, the Scout! [Otro]
Am D D Am G [Optional last note] single strum
