Wrapping Memories

There's a pile of presents beneath the tree
Carefully wrapped by you and by me
But it won't be the gifts that stay in our mind
Years from now when we look back, we'll find

It's the smell of cinnamon filling the air
Helping mom decorate cookies with care
And the holiday records that dad loved to play
We'd all sing off-key as we got carried away

The presents we get will wear and fade
But the real gifts of Christmas, are the memories made

Decorating the tree with a star placed on top
As we sit by the fireplace watching popcorn pop
'Cause Christmas isn't about the gifts that you get

It's the clothespin reindeer
Made with googly eyes
And fuzzy pipe cleaner antlers
That we'd improvised

Writing our letter to Santa
Promising we'd been good

Or at least that he understood

But it didn't really matter if he filled our list
Our time spent together is the true gift of Christmas
