G said jumpin outta air-planes was a

C Delmer Gill he's got a parachute
F and Uncle Harvey's got an air-plane,
G so we called the boys together,
C today's the day,
C Well I found out too late, what

C and I felt my fear begin to rise
F as delmer packed the parachute,

F strapped me in the harness
G so Tildon brought a jug n' they
C passed it 'round.
C So I took one look at that
F parachute and that whisky and that airplane
G and I turned that bottle up n' I
C drank it down.
C Well I was Drunker'n Cooter Jones
F when they poured me in that plane,
G the engine coughed as I Headed for
C the clouds.
C but I's sober as a judge when Harvey
F opened up the door
G and I've never known my heart to
C beat so loud.
C I screamed, :Harvey! I Can't Do this! You and I've known each other a very long time, you been my uncle all my life, to ask another human being to jump out of an airplane at this altitude and at this velocity is simply ridiculous man."
F at which point, he kicked me out the door
G and I wrapped my hands around the
C landing gear.
C and I was holdin' on real good
F 'til Harvey stepped upon my fingers
G and Virgil heard me scream from
C way down there.
C well I Thanked God And I thanked
F Buddha. I thanked Jesus I thanked Judah,
G I thanked Krishna and all the
C lesser Hindu gods,
C most of all i thanked my good
F friend Delmer Gill when my parachute finally opened
G and I thought, " Hell There Ain't
C No Use In Being Afraid!"
C I came crashing through that hen
F house, I scattered chickens, I broke eggs
G and then I kissed that ground, I
C fainted dead away.
C Now friends I been in a few
F battles n' I been shot at once r' twice
G and I damn near been runned over
C by a train,
C F but I never do remember ever being so afraid.
G as the day I jumped from Uncle
C Harvey's plane
