A headset for two
Splitting the night
Paradise in the heart of the crowd
The world too small for what we felt

Rain falling under neon haze
Like the sky bowing just to help
I wore green beneath the lamplight glow
You said it was your favorite hue

I bought so many green clothes back then
Just to see your smile linger longer
And for a moment, I believed it all

Wooden rings and reckless promises
Carved deeper than the heart
Secluded secrets, cats in the dark
Laughter mingling with the rain

Steam rising from the warmth of the shower
You speaking as if we had forever
I mistook your presence
For something that wouldn't fade

More coffee, more cheap beer
More nights merging into day
Love tangled among video game controllers
As if it had a home

But not every fire is shelter
Not every touch takes root
I loved like I was building something
You loved like you were passing through

There were fractures beneath the surface
Politics and quiet battles
Yet, I kept holding the fragile structure
Of something already broken
