Gm Dm The boy sits in a field tall grass above his head,
Fm and he's thinking of the path that
Cm his ancestors did tread
Ebm and as he's dreaming of the future
Bb a mist does descend,
A and he wonders if this is the
D beginning or is this the end
Gm Dm And out of the mist a tall creature does appear,
Fm Cm his eyes wide and friendly, his face full of years,
Ebm he says "we're going on a journey
Bb in my hot air balloon,
A D and the time is now so we must get going soon". [Verse 2]
Gm They flew over the houses and the
Dm streets they use to know,
Fm Cm over trains going fast and people going slow,
Ebm there was snow on the mountains and
Bb boats on the sea,
A and there were lovers in the forest
D carving their names into a tree
Gm The boys says "where are we going,
Dm where are we going to,
Fm I'm scared of the future and I'm
Cm mildly scared of you,
Ebm the creature looked down and said
Bb "don't be scared of the unknown",
A D we're going to a place in which I have grown. [Verse 3]
Gm With a sudden gush of wind the
Dm balloon fell from the sky,
Fm Cm and the boy shut his eyes and hoped he wouldn't die,
Ebm Bb the creature was calm, he had done this before
A so he landed the hot air balloon
D and he opened the door [Verse 4]
Gm Dm The boy walked out and he couldn't believe his eyes,

Fm Cm there was a flock of sheep floating through the skies
Ebm Bb followed by a shepherd, going along for the ride
A D the boy wondered what was going on. [Verse 5]
Gm So he walked through this land with
Dm the creature by his side,
Fm Cm to his left was a painter, painting the tides,
Ebm Bb and to his right a pack of wolves did cry
A D to the rise and fall of the moon.
Gm And they entered the forest and the
Dm trees they hung low,
Fm Cm everything was dark and nothing there did grow
Ebm Bb apart from a single yellow rose
A D that the boy put in his hair
Gm Dm And out of the forest, the snow it did fall,
Fm Cm the creature held the boy away from the storm
Ebm Bb as out of the snow appeared an empty platform,
A and they waited patiently for a
D train. [Verse 6]
Gm Dm From far in the distance a train did arrive
Fm with a thousand polar bears
Cm passengers inside,
Ebm the creature said to the boy "are
Bb you ready for the ride"
A D and the boy said "yes I think I am"
Gm So they sped through the hills and
Dm over mountains they did go,
Fm Cm over old wooden bridges withered from the cold
Ebm Bb and the boy stared out of the window
A D and smiled at all he could see
Gm They travelled through the desert to
Dm the setting sun,
Fm Cm over streams and rivers to where it all begun,
Ebm and through the wind and the rain
Bb until the days were done,
A D they rode through the land [Verse 7]
Gm Dm All of a sudden, the train it did stop,
Fm the creature said to the boy "this
Cm is where we both get off",
Ebm and all the polar bears climbed to
Bb the top of the train
A D to wave their goodbyes
Gm Now alone, they walked through a
Bb featureless land,
Fm Cm no blade of grass, no grain of sand
Ebm Bb and on the horizon a great sea did stand
A and the creature said " this is
D where I must go"
Gm Dm And at the waters edge, nothing more was said,
Fm the boy looked at the creature, not
Cm a single tear was shed,
Ebm and the creature laid his hand upon
Bb the boys head,
A D and gave him a wink of his eye
Gm The creature turned around and
Dm walked slowly to the sea,
Fm Cm to go to a place where forever he would be,
Ebm Bb and with one great leap he leapt into sea
A and in the blink of an eye he was
D gone.
Gm Dm The boy stood still, alone now on the shore,
Fm he stared into the distance and
Cm hoped there would be more,
Ebm Bb and the yellow rose it fell to the floor
A D and drifted away on the wind.
