Teenage Tritonus

It was a back and forth, where back was a disaster
it was a water tread, a call with different answers
when you're in the heat, you cannot see your place
I smelled your undies just in case we never happened
I guess I knew by then it was evaporating
when you're on the spot you work with what you've got

it's weird how fun you are
when you are young and willing
poetic, jester-capped and up for talking feelings
phone calls in the night and you get up and go
the winter feels so long in airholed patterned sneakers
you wanna stay inside her all throughout December

back in my mind, visions of fluff
valiant lust that's winding me up
how high can one soar on kind words and smiles
opposing the ache, with constant denial
teeny bop love, change like the sky
perky at day, murky at night
I could've sworn that she would put out
if only I could turn the tide
