Like Child Like Man

Twenty years ago the seed of what was to grow was planted.

When I was a child
My world was so small
A satellite of love
Naive it revolved

Life was fun and games
I always played by the rules
But was it ever in my hands
After so much to go through

When did I lose my way?
When did life fade away?

The price we pay to learn: innocence
Rust, decay, loss, we fade away

Slowly it all did change
My folks grew estranged
No one told me why
Things could never be the same

No more fun or games
Rules are for the insane
it was never in my hands

Here I've tried to change what I am I've tried to become not like you Dad
I've tried to walk away from the path you did. The path you took! was it worth it?
Weather beaten and exposed on the ledge so formidable a rock you were,
yet something happened ... a tiny little fissure and water burst forth in a steady trickle

In child the seeds of hatred
Like the man; mirror image.
In child the seeds of despair
Like the man; living life in rage.

When I turn back these pages of my life
I see parallels with my old man
Now I realize he's what I've become
