Jacob's Ladder

Every little once in awhile you find yourself overwhelmed
Something's missing, like the strength or a reason
To tell me if there's something wrong
And I'm noticing the cracks in the tiles
Lining the walls of your dim-lit bathroom
I see the pain of your bruises fading in like the insects crawling through
The air is growing heavy
And the minutes turn to hours
I'm hearing all the voices yell
Muffled through the thin walls keeping your mind at ease
The waves of the rough sea lapping at the edge of your shatter-able sanity
When I come back in the room you're there, all balled up in the corner
Struggling to breathe
What took all the air out of your lungs and put you on your knees?

When the darkness falls around you
And your hope has failed to find you
I'll be standing right beside you
Take my arm and I will guide you
Do you remember back to when we used to run along with the wind
Letting it carry us over-hill, leading us to all our dreams?
Now we're just fighting it, lost without a cause
As we fell from those innocent days, growing up, losing our ability
To tell what's right and wrong for us
You don't know what to do

It's growing brighter inside
